A. Plant

The most interesting plant for me is the famous fertility tree or Samanea saman, scientifically speaking. When I first came to UPLB, it is the first one to catch my eye due to its enormous size, broadness, mushroom-like appearance, dark green color, and large canopy.  Its position amazes me since it’s at the center---seems like it’s governing the surrounding plants also helped by its mushroom-like appearance. I also observed that it is greener than the other plants, making it look healthier. I find it interesting due to these reasons--- its position and mushroom-like appearance. From stories and discourses, the old fertility tree is bigger and broader to the point that its leaves were able to reach the ground than the current one. The fertility tree shades you perfectly from sunlight so it is a great place to relax and study and it also releases a peaceful aura. Every time I walk past the Freedom Park, I never fail to look and admire the tree due to its beauty. I also find the stories about it pretty funny due to the Filipino humor. I hope that the tree will remain maintained because I think it is one of the many wonderful sites to visit in UPLB.

B. Animal

Our pet’s name is Dexter--- a male shih tzu. My sister got him from her officemate two years ago. Dexter was timid and reserved when we first met him but after a few months he became comfortable with us and eventually became jolly and enthusiastic. When I go home, I always find him excitedly waiting for our family members. He welcomes us with his eagerness and playfulness which temporarily takes away our worries and frustrations. Having a pet is like adding a new family member although it’s sort of difficult to take care. We regularly wash and feed him. Washing him is hard because, as I said, he is very enthusiastic making it hard to keep him in the tub. On the other hand, the problem with feeding him is that he’s always hungry. When he sees us eating meals or having snacks, even though he just ate, he’ll jump around and ask for our food. My family loves him very much even though Dexter annoys us at times when he is noisy and mischievous. Having Dexter is a wonderful gift to us, he is an addition to the family, and although it is somewhat difficult to take care of a pet, we will still choose to have him.
