Software Engineering Project on Women Safety-Information System Developmen

1.1 Objective of the project:

Provide safety to women from sexual abuse and crime by use of Information technology.

The project idea is to have a software/Information technology layer between the all the people and police department.

User does require to choose any one technology she wish to adopt

• A Smart Phone having GPS

• Normal Phone + Our Gadget (A small device with GPS and finger print scanning)

• Only Gadget

1.2 How it works:

The user needs to activate the device or the app installed in the smartphone when she travel alone. Once after activation, the user will be monitored by the service provider.

If/When the user feels, she is under threat, she needs to press the HELP button in her device or in her App.

The Information system of the service provider will give call to the nearest 5 people located near the user.

System uses predictive analytics to choose whom should the call go, make sure the call goes to best appropriate person. Simultaneously an alert shall be sent to police by the Information system with the details of all people (including suspect and witnesses) captured using predictive analytics intelligence of IS. All the information transferred to police shall be 100% accurate with facts and proofs.

2.0 Information System Requirement specification

For Requirement specification for the Information System, we created a questioner to collect the preferences and requirement from the target users.

A sample size of 25 was used, and they gave us 25 different response views.

We asked them direct questions and open ended questions to know their requirements, preferences and suggestions.

Finally, to get the suggestions and other requirements from Respondents, we asked all respondents a direct question, “What are your suggestions towards this project idea? Do you have any other requirement which is missing in this project? “

I am guessing that the app for this purpose would be using mobile network or internet to request for help. But, normally the places where the girls would feel unsafe be out of network coverage area. At the moment of emergency, the user may not get connected to the network. If this issue could be considered then the system could be more robust.

I think the main problem in India is the attitude of people towards crimes against women. Though this project may help a woman feel safe to some extent, you cannot leverage such technology fully without changing the mindsets of people (including the police). Implementing something like this should go hand in hand with educating & sensitizing the masses, surety of punishment and education as a whole

It is good and hope it works for the safety of girls....But What if there is no network in the area where the girl is....or if an incident happens with her all of a sudden and she gets no time to even take out the gadget and press help....I feel you should also think of all this situations and devise the gadget accordingly ...thank you

Depends on how accurate the app or the gadget tells your location. If it is too slow to react it is usless as internet does not have speed every corner of the city.
