The Moral Dilemma Issues in Film ‘The Hunger Games'

In the Film, the Hunger Games takes place in a nation, which consists of the wealthy Capitol and twelve surrounding, poorer districts united under the Capitol's hegemony. Each year one boy and one girl between 12 and 18 from each district are selected by an annual lottery to participate in the Hunger Games, an event in outdoor arena controlled by the Capitol, until only one individual remains. Katniss, who volunteers for the 74th annual Hunger Games in place of her younger sister. The male tribute, a former schoolmate of Katniss.

The major ethical question of the Hunger Games comes down to the game themselves.

1. Katniss knows she must survive to return to her sister. And she is unwilling to lay down her own life. She often does not engage directly in combat but waits to defend her own life when attacked instead of being the aggressor. The moral dilemma: Is murder for self-defense
