NABU 504 - Strategic Business Plan

Report and Presentation (30%)

Each group is required to complete a strategic business plan or your Company’s strategic approach, experience and results from the Simulation.

Strategic Business Plan - Written Report (23%)

Your group’s report should provide an overview and background information on the organization and articulate, with reference to your readings and summary of key information from your company’s actual results, a critical analysis of the company’s strategic approach to date – as well as what you would recommend changing for the future.  

Using the course learnings and your project work to date, the Strategic Business Plan and Report must include (but not be restricted to) the following sections: 

1.      Cover page: title, class number, group members

2.      Executive Summary: provides a one to two-page summary of the entire report including your findings/recommendations

3.      Introduction: introduce the reader to what you will be doing in the report

4.      Charting your Direction: relevant background and overview of the company’s mission, vision, values, goals, SBU’s and stakeholders.

5.      Environmental Analysis: an internal and external analysis of your company’s business and the influences on it. Include an overview and analysis of the competitive environment that your company operates in. Include your perspectives on any trends or challenges which might impact the organization

6.      Strengthening the Company’s Competitive Position: summarize your company’s strategies, what initiatives (decisions) you took with each of the major business functions, and your overall success of the strategy against your key goals and objectives

7.      Key Financial Ratios:  linking to the section above, include overall financial strengths across a multiple of financial ratios. Be sure to define what each ratio means and why it is important to the Company

8.      Overall Assessment and Recommendations for Future Success: develop or What is your group’s overall assessment of the strategy? Was it effective? Not effective? emerging? Given this assessment, do you have any recommendations to make regarding the company’s current strategy? What should you be aware of, what do you need to build on, what do you need to change? What will these recommendations result in?

10.  Conclusion: in this section, provide a summary of all the sections above and state your overall conclusions.

11.  Appendices: include key additional information that is required to support your analysis directly. Required: financial statements and ratios, graphs, team agreement

12.  References: this report should demonstrate that you have read the material in class as well as researched the industry and the topic. List only those references that you have referred to and cited in your report. Make sure your references use the Harvard citation style and are in alphabetical order.
