Volcanic Impacts

A group of villagers living in a tropical climate are sitting down. They are enjoying the hot tropical sun as the UV rays soak their now tanned skin. Suddenly a huge cloud of heavy dust and ash take over the blue skies sending everyone into a panic. Their annual Volcano visit has come. When many hear the word “volcano” they automatically think of a firing hot mountain destroying a tropical area or region as it spews fireballs into the people’s homes and buildings. Volcanoes are thought of as natural disasters but they do more good than many think. Their heavy impact on the Earth affects the way people live as well.

Volcanic eruptions can have a heavy positive impact on the Earth. According to an informational article entitled “Volcanic Soils”, volcanic eruptions produce deposits of rock and ash in the surrounding area. When this happens the soil is enriched with nutrients for plants. After weathering from the ash and rocks deposits becomes a soil, it will become one of the richest soils on Earth. Rich soils help more plants grow. It can also help plants grow faster. Volcanoes are more likely to be located in tropical climate areas, where weathering from the wind and rain occur quickly. In the same informational article, it is brought up that Hawaii’s lush vegetation is due to the rapid formation of soil from volcanic deposits.

Magma systems give a rough idea of identified volcanoes that are likely to erupt. According to an information article entitled: How Many Volcanoes Are There?” eruptions separated by tens of kilometers along a single rift can share the same magmatic system. When Volcanoes erupt they produce deposits of rock in the surrounding soil. They are rich in minerals but they aren’t immediately available to plants. Volcanic slopes also can result into places like the Hawaii Volcanoes Park. According to the article, the roads rise over sea level to over four thousand feet and are partly within the boundary of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
