There are many holidays around the world. In specific. United State has some important holidays such as Christmas, Thanks Giving, New Year’s Eve,… In China, they celebrate Lunar New Year. Same as Chinese, Vietnamese also has Lunar New Year, but it called “Tet”. Tet is the most important holiday in Vietnam for several reasons.

First, Tet is the traditional holiday in Vietnam culture. Tet is celebrated around January and February based on lunar calendar. A week before Tet, Vietnamese usually get ready for an upcoming new year by cooking traditional foods and cleaning up the house. Besides, Vietnamese also have their traditional food, and they have a special tray of fruit for New Year’s Eve.

Tet is the time for family reunions. Some people who work and study far away from home; they always wait for this holiday so they can come back to hometown to gather with their family. On the first day of Tet, Vietnamese spend their time for family and visit relatives. Children always wear new clothes, and they prepare New Year’s greeting for elder people. Then, elder people give children a red envelope called “li xi” which means lucky money. After that, they will have a small party between family members. They sit down together and talk about many things. If the second day of Tet is for friends, the third day of Tet is teachers’ s day. Vietnamese usually spend the third day of Tet to visit their teachers who have been teaching them. Teachers are considered as second parents in Vietnam.
