January 18, 2008, the worst day of my life. I was in middle school at the time I was only in the eighth grade. My mom called me while I was in class but I ignored it. After I ignored it the third time I knew she had to tell me something important because she never calls me while I'm in school. So I asked the teacher if I could be excused from class to go to the office so I could call my mom.

"Sure Ibn just don't be long because we have a review for the test tomorrow."

"Ibn you have to remain strong for your family. You are now the man of the family, if your mother and sister see you upset they will become even more upset. I know this is a lot of weight on your shoulders but you will have to turn into a man at a young age to provide and help your family."

After I understood everything that happened I stayed at my grandmother's house for closure. It killed me just being in the house where all my grandfather's possessions were, and walking past his empty spot on the bed. I and my grandmother talked again after the first day when I was calm, and she explained everything very well to me and with some nice words because she knew how important he was to me.
