Taste and Culture

Culture is a system of beliefs , traditions , and pratctices that vary a society from another , and it's also that thing that gives meaning to our lives and being . But talking about culture and its connection to taste raises some questions ; What is the relation between taste and culture ? which one has an impact on the other ? and what are the characteristics of so called " The cultural taste " ? .

Before detecting the relationship that binds the two elements together , it is compulsory for us to define taste ; it's a physical and psychological reaction and it's an individual's and personal patterns of choices and preferences , and the relation between them is that taste affects and takes control over culture , for taste is deciding what to like and what to dislike in it . For instance , someone gets into a music store in which he/she finds a lot of musical genres , but he/she chooses to listen to a particular genre rather than the others , that his /her taste prefers . Also , when a person gets into a restaurant , and while reading the menu that contains so many kinds of food , he / she chooses a specific dish , that taste which represents his / her preference . Thus , taste defines , determins , and shapes our culture .

Thinking about the relationship of taste and culture revealed that taste has a deep impact on culture , but this is not a hundred per cent true , because culture also has a main role in this equation. You grow up in a particular society , absorbing certain culture , and living according to such limitations , all of this things contribute in shaping and deciding your personal taste . Have you ever asked yourself why do you prefer to listen to Quoran instead of the holy Bible ? have you ever asked yourself why do you prefer having Couscous on fridays instead of having other meals ? well , the answer to these questions is quite simple , you prefer to listen to Quoran because you have been growing up inside an islamic culture that respects Quoran more than anything else ,and you like to have Couscous every friday because it's a moroccan tradition,therefore
