Psalm 119 - Taking God at His Word

This morning we will be discussing Psalm 119.  This morning we want to answer the question of What does reading the Bible mean to us as Christians today? We want to find out if reading the Bible is important to us personally. DeYoung says that Psalm 119 shows us what we should believe, feel, and do as we interact with God’s revelation to us in words.  He tells us that we should learn to love this psalm because it gives voice to the song that is within our souls.  DeYoung also tells us that when we embrace everything the Bible says about itself then we will believe what we should about the word of God, we will feel what we should feel, and do with the word of God what we ought to do. (DeYoung, 2015)

God’s word is the foundation for all areas of our walk in the Christian life.  This word is given to us, so we can know him. Psalm 119 is a call to focus on and dwell in the word of God. It is the longest chapter in the Bible. Psalm 119 is amazing study and insight into God and his law.  For us to fully understand Psalm 119 we are going need to understand the entire book of Psalms and the context of these psalms.   Psalms is a book of Poems and Songs about the life of God, they shed light into the heart of the songwriter.

DeYoung tells us the we do not need another special revelation form God outside the Bible. He says we can listen to the voice of God every day.  DeYoung tells us that if we want to hear from God we need to go to the book that records only what he has said. We need to immerse ourselves into the word of God. (DeYoung, 2015)  When we look in the word of God 2 Peter 1:16 tells us that we are not following devised myths that what has been made know to us comes from the power of Jesus and that they were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
