Hackers Friend or Foe?

In the world today technology has besieged out lives, almost every American owns a Cell Phone, Tablet or Personal Computer. You may ask who is at the forefront of these technologies. Or you may ask who is making the software that protects my technology? Well the answer may surprise you. Hackers are the ones who are at the forefront of technology development and security. Hackers are not what society has painted them out to be. It is important that people must be educated on what hackers really are so they can better understand the technology at hand.

"Hackers are a threat to society itself."

I.T Tech, Henry. "Hackers Are Nothing but Trouble." N.p., n.d. Web.

"Hackers are like children who need an excuse to run around and do whatever they want leaving a mess behind that all of us have to clean up."

I.T Tech, Henry. "Hackers Are Nothing but Trouble." N.p., n.d. Web.

It is often argued that hackers are a menace to society; this thought is not completely inaccurate. It is true that people who are considered hackers have damaged systems, stolen intellectual property from the internet and have cracked several pieces of software. People who call themselves hackers have also written viruses that cause millions of dollars in damages to systems as well. It is undeniable that the hackers have broken the law in the past, do in the present and will continue to do so in the future. It is also true that most hackers are young people in their teens who wish to run around the internet like it's the Wild West destroying whatever get in there way. Hackers are also certainly not for any type of laws that restrict them in any way they hate boundaries of any kind and if challenged or if there freedom to roam is threatened they can become a serious problem costing the government and corporations alike millions of dollars in damages and repairs.

These claims are undoubtedly true, though they have failed to look at the hacker community as a whole. Hackers are a culture, of freedom loving people who believe in a laissez faire type government system with free flowing information; Hackers believe that all people should unite under a common name and attempt to solve the world's problems free of cost to any parties. Hackers also believe in hard work as a source of accomplishment. Hackers also enjoy a good challenge, which is what draw most hackers to computers. Even though hacking as a whole has been around for centuries computers are at the forefront of this technology. Hacking itself actually applies to all technology. Hacking is the exploitation of technology for a use other than what it was intended for the common purpose of solving a problem. The term 'Hacker' is a short version for the real name computer systems hacker. Computer systems hackers are people who take the life style of a hacker and apple it to the modern world and technology.
